Thurnau
      Franconian Pottery
A Renaissance building from 16th century the ancient grammar school accommodates the pottery museum of Thurnau. Here you can find regional pottery arts and crafts from past and present. In addition to that the museum presents an interesting documentation of the history and the working methods of Thurnau pottery.
The museum, situated between church and castle, presents traditional potter handcraft of Thurnau, beginning in the 14th century, in elegant furnished rooms. On the basis of documents, old construction plans, archaeological finds and ancient photographs you can receive an impression of the history of the Thurnau pottery in the documentation centre. Here you can trace the entire operating process beginning with the clay-extraction to the fired crockery.

Tableware and arts and crafts of departed potter master craftsmen of Thurnau are presented there. The workshop exhibitions of the local potteries, which are still working in Thurnau today, organise the museum in a lively way.
