     The "Kaiserpfalz" III
Along with the prince-bishopric of Bamberg, the town and citadel of Forchheim also eventually went to Bavaria in 1803. The beginning of the industrialisation led to the formation of some notable companies; otherwise it was still predominantly dependent on crafts, trades and agriculture.

With the economic upturn very soon the old fortress became too cramped and most of the fortifications were torn down.
The "Kaiserpfalz” – A building full of history

The "Kaiserpfalz” in Forchheim is not an emperor's palace. People thought so for a long time, because medieval certificates proved that the German emperors lived there. Archaeological excavations disclosed the secret: in fact, the building has its origins in the 14th century and belonged to the Bamberg prince bishop Lambert von Brunn. His successors kept adding and remodelling, until the bishop of Bamberg had to move out in 1803 due to the secularization. Since then the building went through stormy times. Today the "Kaiserpfalz” is fundamentally renovated and converted into a museum and cultural centre.
